Description
Porsche 917 K Martini No. 22, 1971 Le Mans winner, The 4.9 Liters 12 cylinder engine developing 580 Hp had a weight of 1,785 Pd. thanks to its light weight magnesium chassis. Maximum speed was about 240 miles per hour. At the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans race, Porsche won for the second time with the short tail Martini No. 22 driven by Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep. The car ran 397 laps, which was a distance record at 3,315.210 miles; that record, which many believed would be unbreakable would however be broken in 2010 when three Audi R15 TDI ran by Joest Racing ran in excess of that distance.
